Welcome
Hi. I'm Ana.
This is a small studio on the second floor of an old Alfama building. One bed, big windows, a kitchenette. You're in the oldest part of Lisbon, the streets are cobbled, the neighbours are loud, and the cathedral bells ring on the hour. None of that is a fault.
Two things for your first hour:
- Coffee is in the cupboard above the sink. Milk in the fridge.
- There's a candle on the windowsill. Light it tonight if you remember. It's a Casa Lisboa thing.
I live a five-minute walk away. WhatsApp me anytime, number in Contacts. Usually around 8am to 10pm.
Two or three nights is the right length here. Long enough to find a favourite miradouro, short enough to leave wanting to come back.

The router is the small white box on the bookshelf next to the kitchen. It blinks blue when everything's working. If the network drops, unplug it for thirty seconds and it'll come back. There's a backup network called CasaLisboa for older phones and laptops that won't pick up the main one. Same password.
Address & directions
Address
Rua dos Bacalhoeiros 12, 1100-070 Lisbon, Portugal
Look for the dark green wooden door with brass numbers, half a block uphill from the cathedral square. The doorbell is the third from the top. It just says "12, 2°".
📍 Sé de Lisboa is your closest landmark. Once you find the cathedral, walk uphill for ninety seconds and you're on our street.
From Lisbon Airport (LIS):
- Taxi / Uber: about 25 minutes, expect €18–€22.
- Metro: Red line to Alameda → Green to Terreiro do Paço → 6-minute walk uphill. Around €1.65 with a Viva Viagem card from any vending machine.
Parking is hard in Alfama. The street is one-way and locals fight for spots. The nearest paid garage is 📍 Parque Campo das Cebolas (3-minute walk, around €10/day).
Check-in
Check-in is anytime after 3pm. No one to meet, you let yourself in.
Building code
7421*
(The star is the actual asterisk key on the keypad, not a modifier.)
Inside the lobby:
- Lift is to the right of the mailboxes
- It only goes up. The down button does nothing, take the stairs back down
- 2nd floor, first door on the left. That's us
Late arrival. The building locks down at 11pm. If your flight gets in after that, WhatsApp me before you arrive and I'll come down. Two minutes, no drama.
Access & keys
The lockbox is just left of the front door, mounted under the tile that's slightly raised (you'll see it). Dial in the code and the door swings open.
Lockbox code
1984
Two keys inside: a brass one for the apartment door and a smaller silver one for the building post box (you probably won't need the second, but it's there). At check-out, please leave both keys on the kitchen counter. Don't put them back in the lockbox. The lockbox is only for arrival.
One thing about the kitchen window: it only opens fully if you twist the handle to the left first. There's a stopper that catches if you go straight up. Twist left, then lift, and it opens wide.
House rules
- Quiet hours: 10pm to 8am. Alfama's cobblestone streets echo badly at night. Sound travels further than you'd expect. After 10pm, please keep the windows closed and voices low. The neighbours work early.
- No smoking inside. The balcony is fine; please close the door behind you.
- Maximum 2 guests. The studio is cozy on purpose. It's not built for more.
- The candle on the windowsill is for guests. It's a tradition here. Please don't take it home; the next guests will want it too.
Extras & services
A few add-ons we can sort if you'd like them. None are required.
Pre-arrival grocery box, €30
Bread, coffee, milk, fruit, a bottle of Vinho Verde, a wedge of pastel-shop cake. Waiting on the kitchen counter when you arrive.
- How to request: WhatsApp me 24 hours before arrival with any allergies
- Pay: Added to your booking invoice
E-bike day hire, €18/day
Alfama is a thigh-burner on foot. The shop on the corner (Bike Iberia) holds two bikes for my guests at a discount, just say Casa Lisboa.
- How to request: Walk down the morning you want one
- Pay: Card at the shop
Late check-in (after midnight), €15
The building locks at 11pm and the lift goes into night mode. If your flight gets in late, I'll come down and let you in.
- How to request: Message me with your flight number
- Pay: Cash on arrival
Check-out
Check-out is by 11am. You don't need to clean. Just leave it tidy enough for a human to walk in after you.
- Toss used towels on the bathroom floor
- Leave dirty dishes in the sink (no need to wash)
- Pop both keys on the kitchen counter (not the lockbox)
That's it. If you need a late check-out, message me the night before. If there's no back-to-back booking I'm usually flexible.
One more thing: Padaria Ribeiro on the corner opens at 6:30am. The pastéis de nata are still warm at seven. If you're catching an early flight, that's your breakfast sorted.
Local recommendations
Places I actually go. Tap any name for the map.
Fábrica Coffee Roasters, 5 min uphill. Sit at the bar, not the tables. Talk to whoever is doing the roasting that morning.
Taberna Sé for lunch. Order the bacalhau à brás. Don't skip dessert. Small place, fills fast: arrive before 1pm or after 2:30pm.
Taberna da Rua das Flores for dinner. Always book ahead. If you tell them Ana sent you, they remember.
Pensão Amor for drinks, 15 min towards Cais do Sodré. Old brothel, one of the best cocktail bars in Europe. Go after 10pm. Leave the kids at home.
Best sunset: Miradouro das Portas do Sol. Get there 15 minutes early. If the terrace is packed, walk three minutes downhill to Largo do Chafariz de Dentro. Half the tourists, same sky.
Contacts
Ana, your host. WhatsApp: (demo only). Usually around 8am to 10pm. Outside those hours, call instead of message.
Sr. Costa, building manager. (demo only). Anything to do with the building itself, an electricity trip, water in the corridor. Speaks some English; Portuguese is easier for him.
Quick numbers
- Emergency (police / ambulance / fire): 112
- Farmácia Estácio (pharmacy), 2 minutes on foot, round the corner on Rua dos Bacalhoeiros. Open every day including Sunday mornings. The pharmacist speaks English
